How much does a tow cost in Kansas City?

A daytime car tow with NevkaR starts at $85, and that covers the first 5 miles. What you end up paying depends on four things: the vehicle, the miles, the time of day, and the shape the car is in. Here's how each one moves the price.

The short answer

Here's what common tows cost with us in Kansas City, Missouri:

TowPrice
Car, 3 miles, daytime$85
Car, 10 miles, daytime$105
SUV or pickup, 10 miles, daytime$120
Car, 20 miles, daytime$145
SUV, 15 miles, 11 PM, no keys$200

Each price is our base rate plus $4 for every mile after the first 5, plus any extras below.

The four things that set the price

1. The vehicle

A car or sedan is $85. An SUV, pickup or van is $100. Both include the first 5 miles.

2. The miles

After the first 5 miles, each mile is $4. This is the part you control. If your usual mechanic is 25 miles away and a good shop is 6 miles away, the closer shop saves you $76.

3. The time of day

Tows between 8 PM and 6 AM have a $40 after-hours charge. If the car is somewhere safe, like your driveway, scheduling the tow for the morning saves you that $40.

4. The shape the car is in

  • Won't roll or won't go into neutral: +$20
  • No keys: +$20
  • Wrecked and not drivable: +$50
  • Accident cleanup (glass, fluids), only if needed: +$40
  • Stuck in a ditch, mud or grass: $60 for the first 30 minutes of winching, then $30 for each 15 minutes after that

What shouldn't cost extra

Some cars are harder to tow on a truck that lifts one end and drags the other wheels on the road. On a flatbed, every car rides the same way, all four wheels on the truck. We only run flatbeds, so these cost $0 extra with us:

  • Flat tires
  • All-wheel drive or 4x4
  • Electric or lowered cars
  • A car that won't start (if it rolls and you have the keys)

If another company quotes you, ask if any of these add to the price. Not sure which kind of truck your car needs? Read flatbed vs. wheel-lift towing.

Fees to ask about before you say yes

  • Wait time. We give you 15 minutes when we arrive. After that, it's $10 for each 15 minutes.
  • Cancelling. If you cancel after the truck is on its way, or the car is gone when we get there, it's $50.
  • Storage. We don't store cars, so you'll never pay us a storage fee. Just tell us where it's going: your home, a shop, a dealer or a buyer.

What Kansas City's towing rules cover

Kansas City, Missouri's new towing rules took effect on January 1, 2026. They cap the tow fee at $265 and storage at $30 a day. Those caps are written for tows you didn't ask for: police tows and tows from private parking lots. If that happened to you, read how to get a towed car back in Kansas City.

When you call a tow truck yourself, the price you agree to is the one that counts. Get it before the truck rolls, and get it in writing if you can. A text message works.
